Port Angeles offers unique shopping and a tremendous variety of restaurants. Specialty shops can be found for kayaking, hiking, camping, biking, fishing, scuba diving, skateboarding etc. In the winter months, skiing, snow shoeing and snow boarding sales and rentals are available.
Bring along your passport and catch the ferry from Port Angeles to Canada's beautiful Vancouver Island and the city of Victoria. Victoria is the capital of British Columbia, offers an English setting to the Pacific Northwest, and many interesting things to do. The walk-on ferry ride is inexpensive, offers amazing scenery, and the ferry docks right in downtown Victoria.
Close to Port Angeles is the small farming town of Sequim. There you can see an exotic animal preserve, the mammoth museum, a great light house and maybe even a herd of majestic elk.
The downtown Port Angeles waterfront is ideal for walking. There are guided tours of historical underground Port Angeles and colorful murals depicting local lore. Take time to enjoy Art on the Town, which features over 38 outdoor sculptures, plus the Avenue of the People, a permanent outdoor art display of ordinary people doing ordinary things. There are plenty of cafés, restaurants, galleries, gift shops, independent bookstores and antique malls. The Painted Lady is one mile from the Olympic Discovery Trail, a well-maintained 28-mile trail winding along the waterfront and through rural farmland that connects Port Angeles and Sequim and out to Elwha River. It's ideal for a family bike outing, leisurely stroll, wildlife viewing and a scenic jog.
The City Pier, in the heart of downtown Port Angeles, offers magnificent views of the ships that use the deep water harbor, the snowcapped Olympic Mountains and Victoria. The City Pier and downtown host a variety of events including weekly farmers' markets, summer outdoor concerts, the famous Dungeness Crab & Seafood Festival, etc. The City Pier is also home to the Fiero Marine Life Center, a marine exhibit facility devoted to protecting marine resources. Adjacent to City Pier is the Olympic Coast Discovery Center. Learn about the ocean and underwater landscape, maritime history, marine wildlife, habitats and traditional local cultures. Be sure to take in the lavender festival in July, the logging community of Forks (setting of the famous Twilight series), and the nearby Native American villages, to name just a few of the additional attractions in this area.
Port Angeles offers easy access to Hurricane Ridge, the most popular attraction of Olympic National Park. Everyone loves the Olympic National Park. Don't miss at least 1 trip to the park. Twenty minutes up the mountain from Port Angeles takes you to spectacular views or drive 30 minutes west to the deep and cold Lake Crescent providing great roadside views, waterfalls, short and long hikes and tasty meals at the lodge. Solduc Hot Springs with its several large hot tubs and swimming pool. Marymere Falls and Hoh rainforest are must sees.
