This multi station smith rack is heavy duty and high quality construction. It's only been lightly used in my home. The most significant factors for this machine are its wide scope of possible exercises and the safety catch on the bar. This catch facilitates exercise without the need for a "spotter" on most exercises.
This unit is extremely versatile and provides exercise stations for every major muscle group (note the attached photos).
Abdominal- The bench declines and provides an opportunity for setups.
Chest- The butterfly provides a safe exercise for the chest. The bench press will handle considerable weight and provides the safety catch for flat and decline bench presses. If you are bench pressing heaving weight but need to stop mid-rep, simply rotate the bar, allowing it to catch on the cage and it will not continue down. Using the lower cable system you can pull weight across your chest. Because the bench can be set in a decline position, you can isolate segments of your chest by bench pressing in a decline position.
Back- You can work your back in several ways. The long bar and upper pulley system allow for pulling down and working your lats. The lower pulley system allows for rowing exercises for your back. You can use the bar when doing upright rowing and barbell raising exercises. Again, this provides a level of safety by using the catch on the bar.
Thighs- Squats are safer when using the smithrack catch on the bar. Simply squat and if you can't finish standing up, turn the bar and it will catch. This will allow you to safely get out from underneath the bar. Note the pictures of exercise for the hip flexor and inner thigh as well as several exercises that can be completed with the bench.
Shoulders- Anterior and posterior shoulder muscles can be worked using both the upper and lower pulley system. This package comes with a straight bar as well and a pair of handles.
Triceps and Biceps- Biceps and triceps can be worked using both the upper and lower pulley system. The short straight bar can be used on the biceps (lower pulley system) as well as for the triceps on a pull down from the upper pulley system. Also note the picture of the versatile bench which includes a station for "preacher curls."
The plates in this package are solid steel and in good shape. This is the Body Solid brand which is heavy duty and very solid.
