● Check vehicles to ensure mechanical, safety, and emergency equipment is in good working order
● Follow appropriate safety procedures for transporting cargo
● Maintain logs of working hours following applicable state and federal regulations
● Maneuver combination vehicles into loading and unloading positions, following signals from loading crew and checking that the vehicle is properly positioned
● Report vehicle defects, traffic violations, and unsafe conditions
● Read bills of lading to determine assignment details
● Safely couple and uncouple trailers by adjusting trailer jack positions, connecting and disconnecting air and electrical lines, manipulate fifth wheel lock
● Perform basic vehicle maintenance such as adding oil, fuel, coolant, and minor repairs
