Saanen + Guernsey = Saansey!!
After 30 years of raising goats and trying out every breed in the US, we are currently combining the two calmest, sweetest breeds we've ever had; Saanen and British Guernsey.
Both breeds are woefully underutilized by homesteaders, so I've combined the powerful, productive Saanens with the approachable, precious Guernseys to make a truly sublime homesteading dairy goat. Easy to train, easy to fence, easy to love.
Currently available is Trip (pictures 1-3). He's one year old and has already produced a pair of healthy kids (with more on the way). He's a calm, quiet, polite little man with a fantastic hairdo.
Most importantly though, are his genetics.
His dam, Fern (pictures 4 and 5) is my favorite doe of all time. Fantastic build, fantastic production, fantastic personality. As a first freshener she gave a very steady 8 pounds (one gallon) a day, and now as a 4th freshener she's giving 11-12lb a day.
His sire's dam, Klae (pictures 6 and 7) is my second favorite doe of all time. She's smart, sweet, and effortlessly healthy, with a gorgeous symmetrical udder. She peaked at 14 pounds of milk per day (my record for a Saansey!) although her peak doesn't last for as long as Fern's.
Between the two of them, I couldn't help but keep Trip and use him in my herd this year, but he's related to too many of my girls for it to make sense to keep him long term. I'm really hoping to place him somewhere nearby and still be able to use him now and then (for a stud fee of course!).
If you'd like to meet him and the rest of my herd, just shoot me an email. I'm always happy to show them off!
And if they aren't the sweetest, calmest goats you've ever meet, I'll buy you a coffee.

The only goat I have available right now is Trip, but I'll most likely have 2 milkers and a couple babies available this summer.
