Beautiful classic gold and black lacquer intricate design. These have age and are meant to be handled with care. They were never made as play toys.
1. TANSU (Chest of Drawers). In very good condition with no loss to the silvery embellishments, which are often damaged on pieces of this age. Measurements are in the photos. The cord hangings (tsurushi-bina) are original, and in an auspicious color. They are raised in one photo to show the entire front of the tansu. All drawers open, as shown.
NOTE: An identical tansu is listed as antique in the 1870 doll house on page 78 in The Ultimate Dolls’ House Book by Faith Eaton.
2. KYODAI (mirror stand) which is a dresser. Has original tassels. Two long drawers and deep box drawers open. Condition is good, as there is some clouding in the mirror.
3. KASIBETTO (shelved furniture, usually for tea storage). This piece has one drawer that opens. The others do not open. It is sturdy, in good condition, and has its four original accessories and a wood cutout of Mt. Fuji. However, it seems to be missing some silvery embellishments.
Smaller three pieces all in very good condition.
4. HARIBAKO (sewing box) with its original red pin cushion. The two drawers open.
5. HAMSAMIBAKO (small clothing trunk) with handles. The lid lifts off for storage.
6. HIBACHI (charcoal brazier) with red interior. (Also useful in doll scene as garden planter).
Non-smoker, pet-free home.
Cash, pick up.
(*Girl’s Day is March 3rd, when Japanese homes displayed furniture with dolls. Today, many people display their Hinamatsuri sets year round, and collectors everywhere enjoy them in doll houses or doll scenes).
