google map

condition: excellent
make / manufacturer: Skookum
size / dimensions: 12
1913-1920 11" Talk Skookum Doll with a Stand.
Skookum comes from the Chinook Jargon, a trading language in the Pacific Northwest. Used from the Columbia River to the Yukon. This language was used by Europeans, especially the French when trading with the Native Americans from the various tribes that inhabited this region. Skookum means fine, very good, absolute.
Many towns in the Pacific Northwest are forms of this word.

This Skookum woman with her baby is a beautiful representation of Native American culture. 1913-1920 Skookums do not have arms: they are wrapped with wool blankets and have the suggestion of arms. She is 12 inches tall. Most Skookum dolls were made so they look to the right. This woman looks at her baby to the left and the baby looks at her, to the right. Dolls that look to the left are rare and hard to find. Suede shoes over wood with a registered patient tag on the bottom. This tag has the sunrise and the FylFot or whirling logs. These symbols were later dropped because the whirling logs symbol was adopted by Hitler and called a swastika.
Cash only, thanks
