Little Miss Muffet
Sat on a tuffet,
Eating her curds and whey;
There came a big spider,
Who sat down beside her
And frightened Miss Muffet away.
Don’t know about you….but encountering a spider would have me running for the hills!
Little Miss Muffet is one of several in the series of children’s nursery rhymes by this artist.
About the artist: Feodor Stepanovich "Rojan" Rojankovsky (Russian) (December 24, 1891 – October 12, 1970), also known as Rojan, was a Russian émigré illustrator. He is well known both for children's book illustration and for erotic art. He won the 1956 Caldecott Medal for U.S. picture book illustration from the American Library Association, recognizing Frog Went A-Courtin' by John Langstaff.
What is a Lithograph? A lithograph is a type of printing process during which original works of art can be printed and reproduced; the final product is also known as a lithograph, which is an authorized copy of an original work created by an artist or other skilled craftsmen.
This lithograph is printed on chain-laid paper. Laid paper is still commonly used by artists as a support for charcoal drawings. The traditional laid pattern consists of a series of wide-spaced lines (chain lines) parallel to the shorter sides of the sheet and more narrowly spaced lines (laid lines) at right angles to the chain lines.
