Lightning Sailboats are sloop rigged open cockpit daysailers. They are fairly flat bottomed and quick. Roomy cockpit, with fiberglass bench seats for 6-8. The class started before WW11 ( 1938 ) and has around 15k boats, mine is #8922, probably built in the early 1960's. It's fiberglass with a full rubber bump rail, with an expoxied steel centerboard. It has a recent ( 2010 ) aluminum mast, and an older wooden boom. Jib and main sail, older, but serviceable. Red hull, white deck, SS standing rigging, Harken blocks, good running rigging, homemade lazyjack system. Has an adjustable motor mount, varnished and epoxied wooden rudder w/gimballed tiller extension and a tiller tender. Comes on an older heavy duty trailer. Has a removable mast carrier mounted to the boat and trailer. Also has a nice heavy vinyl full cockpit cover ( over the boom ) from Sailor's Tailor ( 5 yrs old, $450. ). Sails well in light to heavy winds. Located at Lake Quinault, 45 minutes N of Aberdeen.
