This amazing chair is not easy to describe in words. It is a work of art. It is in excellent antique condition. My mother had this chair in her living room area and it was a display item as a work of art. No one ever sat in it. She cherished this chair. The work involved in the creation of this chair is beyond compare. In my research I have not been able to find anything comparable to it on sale at this time.

This chair could easily be a museum piece and is collectible as such.

Rather than try to describe it in too many words I decided to just let the photos speak for it. Please note: the chair is seen in the photos outside my heated storage unit where it is being safely kept. The background is not so desirable in the photos. You can imagine the chair sitting in your own background.

I do not know the kind of wood used in the fashioning of the seat. The feet are brass. The chair consists of woven basketry type design, caning and wood. The caning on the back of the chair is unusual and quite beautiful. The caning on the seat is another design.

This chair is in excellent antique condition. There is one minor flaw on the bottom of a front leg above where the brass foot is. There is about an inch or so where the wicker is missing in this area. I did not notice this at first look. It could be easily fixed. There may be a few other minor flaws that I missed.

In my research I found similar pieces that are described as being Victorian Era - circa 1880-1900. From the website, AmericanAntiqueWicker.com, I found photos of pieces with great similarity. The description below is from their page for their 2008 American Antique Wicker Exhibition Atwood House Museum — Chatham MA Historical Society. There I found two photos along with the following description: Victorian wicker is mostly recognized, however, for elaborate and intricate designs of the 1880s-1890s. The fanciful wicker of the aesthetic movement possesses a sculptural quality as hand woven works of art. Toward the turn of the century more subdued patterns were in vogue.

Approx. Measurements: seat is 18” wide at widest part, back of seat is 25” high from seat at highest point, chair back is 22 ½” wide at widest part at the top, seat back is 13 ½” wide where it joins the seat,16” high from floor to top of seat

I have a large sprinter van and am willing to deliver the chair within a 75 mile radius of Port Townsend for a small fee to cover fuel cost.
