Triton's Spear [Kniphofia], Flora’s Feast, Walter Crane
Offered is a framed lithographic plate from the whimsical Flora's Feast: A masque of flowers, first published in 1889.
The plate depicts a charmingly anthropomorphized kniphofia flower. The text reads:
“That, reddening on the Triton's spear, Foretells the waning of the year.”
Walter Crane (1845-1915) was an English artist and book illustrator. He is considered to be the most influential, and among the most prolific, children's book creators of his generation.
Professionally matted and framed. The frame measures about 15.5” x 13”; the image measures about 9” x 6.5”.
In excellent condition. The photographs are somewhat washed out and do not accurately depict the colors of the original. I am also selling another plate from the book, depicting a cowslip (primrose).
